M&L for raking out the existing joint sealing compound from expansion joints of width not exceeding 12 mm to the full depth of the existing sealant or up to 40 mm, whichever is less, by using suitable mechanical tools such as concrete cutters, wire/coir brushes and other approved equipment, and thoroughly cleaning the joints using compressed air so as to make them free from dust, dirt, grease, laitance and all other loose or foreign materials, including all adhered remnants of the existing joint sealing compound and removal of damaged filler board wherever directed, to the entire satisfaction of the Engineer-in-Charge; filling the joints with single-component polyurethane joint sealant, conforming to BS 5212 and EN 14188, applied using a suitable sealant gun or other approved mechanical dispensing equipment to provide a sealant depth of not less than 13 mm (minimum depth above the backer rod), having a manufacturer's performance warranty of not less than 05 years and a minimum Movement Accommodation Factor (MAF) of ±30%, including application of compatible primer uniformly on both joint faces by brush in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions; filling the remaining raked depth with compressed closed-cell polyethylene backer rod to ensure firm and uniform packing without gaps or voids, providing bond breaker tape over the backer rod wherever required to prevent three-sided adhesion and over suitable size filler board wherever required, applying masking tape along the edges of the joint to obtain a neat finish and removing the same immediately after application of the sealant, complete in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and as specified and directed by the Engineer-in-Charge. NOTE:- Closed-cell polyethylene backer rod, bond breaker tape and filler board, where found damaged, missing or otherwise unserviceable and ordered by the Engineer-in-Charge to be replaced, shall be measured and paid for separately under the relevant items. The cost of all other materials, labour, tools and plant, primer, masking tape and incidental items required for proper completion of the work shall be deemed to be included in the quoted rates.

S&F compressed closed-cell polyethylene backer rod, non-absorbent, chemically inert and compatible with polyurethane sealants, for joints of width exc. 8 mm but not exc. 12 mm, complete all as specified and directed. Note: The diameter of the backer rod shall be 20% to 25% greater than the joint width to ensure adequate compression, proper seating and to prevent seepage of sealant past the backer rod during application.

All as per Ser Item No. 06 above, but for joints of width exc. 12 mm but not exc. 20 mm.

All as per Ser Item No. 06 above, but for joints of width exc. 20 mm but not exc. 30 mm.

S&F 25 mm thick non-bituminous cross-linked polymer filler board, HD100 grade (density 100 kg/m³), for expansion joints, complete all as specified and directed. Note: Where the required thickness exceeds 25 mm, filler board shall be built up using multiple layers of 25 mm thick filler board. Measurement shall be made proportionately based on the actual thickness provided.

S&F self-adhesive polyethylene bond breaker tape compatible with polyurethane sealants for joints of width exc. 8 mm but not exc. 12 mm, complete all as specified and directed.
