Steel rods:- 1) Dimension- The sewer line cleaning metal rods shall have a length of 1.2 mtr. & 7 mm dia. Their ends bend to a length of 11 mm at an angle of 108° to prevent the rods from rotating inside the coupling. a) Tolerance of metal rods shall be as follow- 1) length= ±10mm 2) Dia. + 0.5 mm 2) Material The cleaning rods shall be made out of steel conforming in either IS-8052-2006 (Grade 50Cr 4 V2) or IS-4454 part III ( Grade IS) & shall have following properties- a) Tensile strength- Minimum 150kg/mm ( The test shall be carried out in accordance with IS-1521-1972 First Revision) b) Torsional strength- Minimum 300kg/mm ( The test shall be carried out in accordance with IS-1717-1985 Second Revision) c) Rockwell Hardness- C 43 ± 2 3)Bend The rod shall be tested for their flexibility in VNIT, Nagpur. The rods shall be cold bent up to 90° at the radius of 70 cms for period of 5 minutes after realizing the rods. If the maximum deflection observed exceeds 10 mm the rod shall be rejected. 4) Coating The flexible steel rods along with coupling & nuts shall be electro-galvanized up to 5 to 7 microns. Note- 1) Successful bidder shall submit the test report from VNIT for each lot of steel rods supplied at its own cost. 2) Each steel rod shall bear the embossing as approved by NMC.
