Construction of Rainwater Harvesting (RWH) Pits at Piyala LPG Plant A. Background & Objective Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), Piyala LPG Plant intends to construct a Rooftop Rainwater Harvesting Structure (RTRWHS) within the plant premises to conserve rainwater, augment groundwater recharge, reduce storm runoff, and fulfill the statutory requirement for rainwater harvesting at industrial facilities. The structure shall be designed and constructed strictly as per the Guidelines for Construction and Maintenance of Rooftop Rainwater Harvesting Structures issued by the Haryana Water Resources Authority (HWRA) / Irrigation & Water Resources Department, Haryana. B. Pit / Tank Design Standards 1. The Rainwater Harvesting Pit (RWH Pit) shall be constructed in-ground as a filter chamber cum recharge structure of standard dimensions 3.0 m × 3.0 m × 3.0 m (L × B × D), unless varied based on site-specific geohydrological conditions, subject to BPCL Engineer-in-Charge approval. 2. Pit walls shall be of brick masonry using first-class bricks in cement mortar 1:4, plastered internally with CM 1:3 to make them water-retentive. 3. Base of the pit shall have a layer of Plain Cement Concrete (PCC 1:3:6) of minimum 75 mm thickness. 4. The top of the pit shall be covered with an MS Grating/Cover fabricated from MS flats/angles, hinged for easy access and maintenance. The cover shall be designed to carry a minimum superimposed load of 250 kg/m². 5. The pit shall be provided with an inlet jali (15 cm × 30 cm) for entry of rooftop/paved area runoff through connected PVC conveyance pipes. 6. No recharge structure shall be constructed in water-logged areas where water table is less than 10 m below ground level (bgl), as per Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) guidelines. 7.
