Minimum elongation shall be 14.5 % and ratio of ultimate stress to 0.2 % proof stress should be in the range of 1.15 to 1.25. Steel shall be only of strength grades with minimum 0.2 % proof stress of 550 MPa in addition to other requirements of IS 1786. The actual 0.2 % proof stress of steel bars based on tensile test must not exceed their characteristics 0.2 % proof stress by more than 20 %
