STEP-BY-STEP CONSTRUCTION PROCEDURE
FOR ACRYLIC RUNNING TRACK PREPARATION:
1. Earth Work in Excavation
Description:
• Task: Excavate running track trenches in ordinary soil 110mm (wide classification of
soil item-A) and dispose of the excavated earth.
• Process:
o Excavation: Use suitable equipment (e.g., backhoe or excavator) to dig
trenches according to the design specifications.
o Depth and Width: Ensure trenches are excavated to the required depth and
width.
o Debris Removal: Remove roots of trees, shrubs, and other debris from the
trenches.
o Earth Disposal: Transport the excavated earth to a designated area up to 5
meters away.
o Leveling and Ramming: Level and ram the foundation trenches to create a
smooth, stable surface.
2. Construction of Granular Sub-Base
Description:
• Task: Construct a 50mm granular sub-base using coarse graded material.
• Process:
o Material: Use coarse graded material @ 1.28 m³/m³.
o Spreading: Spread the material in uniform layers with a motor grader on the
prepared surface.
o Mixing: Mix the material in place using a rotavator at Optimum Moisture
Content (OMC).
o Compaction: Compact the material with a vibratory roller to achieve the
desired density, as per MORT&H specification 401 (5th revision).
3. Wet Mix Macadam (Plant Mix Method)
Description:
• Task: Provide, lay, spread, and compact graded stone aggregate for wet mix
macadam (50mm specification).
• Process:
o Premixing: Premix the material with water at OMC in a mechanical mix
plant.
o Transportation: Transport the mixed material by tipper to the site.
o Laying: Lay the material in uniform layers with a paver in sub-base/base
course on a well-prepared surface.
o Compaction: Compact the material with a vibratory roller to achieve the
desired density.
4. Providing and Applying Primer Coat
Description:
• Task: Apply a primer coat with SS1 grade bitumen emulsion on the prepared surface
of the granular base.
• Process:
o Surface Preparation: Clear the road surface.
o Spraying: Spray the primer at the rate of 0.70 kg/sqm using mechanical
means.
5. Tack Coat on Bituminous Surfaces (2 Times)
Description:
• Task: Apply tack coat with bitumen emulsion on the prepared bituminous surface.
• Process:
o Cleaning: Clean the bituminous surface with a mechanical broom.
o Application: Apply the tack coat using an emulsion pressure distributor at the
rate of 0.20 kg per sqm.
6. Providing and Laying Dense Graded Bituminous Macadam
Description:
• Task: Provide and lay dense graded bituminous macadam (25mm) using crushed
aggregates.
• Process:
o Material: Use crushed aggregates of specified grading, premixed with
bituminous binder @ 4.0% by weight of the total mix and filler.
o Transportation: Transport the hot mix to the work site.
o Laying: Lay the mix with a hydrostatic paver finisher with sensor control to
the required grade, level, and alignment.
o Rolling: Roll with smooth wheeled, vibratory, and tandem rollers to achieve
the desired compaction as per MoRTH specification clause No. 505
7. Providing and Laying Bituminous Concrete
Description:
• Task: Provide and lay bituminous concrete (30mm) using crushed aggregates.
• Process:
o Material: Use crushed aggregates of specified grading, premixed with
bituminous binder @ 5.2% by weight of the mix and filler.
o Transportation: Transport the hot mix to the work site.
o Laying: Lay the mix with a hydrostatic paver finisher with sensor control to
the required grade, level, and alignment.
o Rolling: Roll with smooth wheeled, vibratory, and tandem rollers to achieve
the desired compaction as per MoRTH specification clause No. 507.
8. Preparation
Surface Inspection
• Inspect Bitumen Base: Ensure the bitumen track is clean, dry, and free from cracks
or other damage.
• Repair Base: Repair any cracks, holes, or imperfections in the bitumen surface to
create a smooth, even base.
Cleaning
• Cleaning Surface: Clean the surface thoroughly to remove dust, debris, and Pressure washing is recommended.
9. Primer Application
Primer Layer
• Primer Application: Apply a suitable primer to the bitumen surface to enhance
adhesion of the subsequent layers. Use a brush, roller, or spray equipment as per
manufacturer’s instructions.
• Curing: Allow the primer to cure as per the specified time.
10. Cushion Layers
First Cushion Layer (Dense Cushion)
• Material Preparation: Mix the dense cushion material as per manufacturer
instructions.
• Application: Apply the first layer of dense cushion using a squeegee or trowel.
Ensure an even, uniform layer.
• Curing: Allow the layer to cure completely before proceeding to the next layer.
Second Cushion Layer (Dense Cushion)
• Application: Apply the second layer of dense cushion over the first, ensuring uniform
thickness and coverage.
• Curing: Allow this layer to cure thoroughly.
Third Cushion Layer (Fine Cushion)
