Custom Design & Development: Integrated Multi-Sensory VR System At the core of the digital control architecture is a centralized VR play-control software capable of simultaneously triggering and synchronizing playback across 15 individual VR Head-Mounted Displays (HMDs). The system is designed to support real-time start, pause, and reset operations with precise timing controls to ensure complete audience synchronization. It features seamless and secure integration of immersive 180° stereoscopic VR content (a blend of filmed and animated sequences) within the centralized control software, with encrypted embedding and synchronized deployment to each VR headset. This ensures that every user experiences the content in a consistent, uninterrupted, and fully immersive manner, tightly coordinated with the motion and sensory effects of the simulator. A dedicated wireless communication infrastructure will connect the central control PC with all 15 VR HMDs, enabling stable, low-latency operation and real-time status monitoring. The system will incorporate dedicated Wi-Fi channel configurations, secure device pairing protocols, to ensure uninterrupted playback. Development of multisensory sync-control software to drive the motion simulation of the boat in real-time synchronization with the immersive VR visuals, and to trigger physical effects such as wind, vibration, aroma, and water spray in perfect sync with corresponding VR scenes. All system components—including the control software, media engines, device drivers, and sensory effect triggers—will be fully integrated into a unified, and maintainable software environment.
This integration ensures that every aspect of the simulation—from synchronized VR content and real-time playback to the motion base and sensory effects—functions cohesively, delivering a fully immersive, technically robust, and reliable multi-sensory VR experience for all participants. The 180° Stereoscopic 3D VR will comprise a total of 7 to 8 minutes of content created through a combination of VR filming and animation techniques, takes visitors on a virtual boat ride through the historic waters of Korkai, showcasing traditional fishing techniques and pearl diving. The experience also includes a mesmerising underwater marine journey, immersing visitors in vibrant aquatic life and oceanic scenes each of the Left and Right streams in ~2,064 x 2,208 pixels resolution. These contents will be seamlessly stitched together to form the final stereo 3D VR movie that meets the technical requirements for a combined resolution of ~4128 × 2208 pixels across both eyes of the final Stereo-3D VR hardware - software system. The content will be distributed across 15 VR devices, each projecting two streams (left and right stereo) for 7 to 8 minutes each. The specific breakdown is as follows: 1. Left VR Screen: • Left Stereo Stream: ~2,064 x 2,208 pixels resolution 3D Animated / Filmed Movie – 7 to 8 Minutes 2. Right VR Screen: • Right Stereo Stream: ~2,064 x 2,208 pixels resolution 3D Animated / Filmed Movie – 7 to 8 Minutes
Total Rendered Content Duration: Stereo Left Stream 7 to 8 min + Stereo Right Stream 7 to 8 min = 14 – 16 min This content distribution allows for a high-quality, immersive viewing experience that enhances the depth and realism of the VR Experience. The content development involves the below technical production processes. A. Preproduction: 1. Research: Detailed study and understanding of the reference images, videos and the historical data provided by the Tamil Nadu Archaeology Department and taking the necessary curation support for the development of the script to accurately represent them in the multimedia content. 2. Creative Scripting: Creating a captivating narrative that ensures the highly immersive, creative and authentic story telling. 3. Screenplay: Writing a dynamic script that will be used as a blueprint for the animated/filmedmovie, including scene descriptions, character actions, and dialogue. 4. Direction: Planning and overseeing the entire production process to ensure the final product aligns with the envisioned concept. B. Production: 1. HQ 3D Modelling & Texturing of Environments & Architecture landscapes 3. HQ 3D Modelling & Texturing of Human Characters 4. Body rigging & Facial expression blend-shapes for Human-Characters
5. Body & Fingers motion capture & Primary/Secondary animations for the Human-Characters 6. Facial Emotions, Expressions, Dialogue Lip-Synch motion capture and animation for the Human-Character 7. Editing: Refining the content for clarity, pacing, and visual appeal along with Post-Vfx, advanced transitions, compositing and title effects. 2. Stereo-3D Depth grading: Fine-tuning and adjusting the depth perception in the stereoscopic 3D content for an immersive visual experience.
o Optimising the Depth-Scripts & Depth-Budgets allocations while considering various Psychological/Physiological Human-Factors. o Scientific calculation of Parallax - Interaxial (IA). o Optimising the Scene Lighting & Textures to avoid Stereo Conflict issueso Optimizing Scenes to avoid stereo conflicts o Finding the Sweet-Spots for Camera Positrons, Angles & Movements which don’t cause Disorientation to the users. o Grading of final S3D VR Movie with comfortable Dwell time (The time for the Eyes & Brain to digest the scene in Stereo3D). o Depth continuity & Depth Ramping with consideration for Convergence & Accommodation (SAT - Senses Accommodation Time). o Pseudo Stereo-3D compositing errors will be checked in every frame. o Most importantly S3D Hurt Index will be checked in every step. 3. Colour grading: Enhancing and adjusting the colours of the content to achieve a desired visual aesthetic and mood. 4. Sound Design: Creating and incorporating sound effects, music, and dialogues to enhance the audience experience through Head-Tracked Ambisonics sound design and encoding. 5. Quality Assurance: Thoroughly checking and validating the multimedia content to ensure it meets the set quality standards.
Custom Design & Development: 7DX Boat Simulator Mechatronics System The project involves the comprehensive design, fabrication, and installation of a 15-seater ancient-style simulation boat, drawing inspiration from traditional Tamil maritime heritage. The boat’s exterior will feature a realistic wood-textured finish, cultural motifs, and period-accurate artistic detailing that authentically reflect the aesthetics of ancient Tamil naval design. The structure will be built to accommodate 15 ergonomically arranged passenger seating benches with Cushion, ensuring both comfort and safety during motion-enhanced experiences. The internal frame will house mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems, carefully concealed to preserve the historical aesthetic while maintaining accessibility for maintenance and service. The outer body of the boat will be created using two layers of fiberglass laid with resin to form a durable, lightweight FRP shell with ~4 mm thickness. This shell will be mounted over a robust metal substructure fabricated using ~30mm x 20mm rectangular tubes, L-angles, and flat bars, welded to the exact shape of the boat for structural rigidity. FRP panels will be joined to the frame using FRP putty and self-thread screws, then sanded smooth and primed with a coat of Duco primer. The final finishing will include a multi-colour acrylic paint scheme applied with a spray gun, followed by manual artistic touch-ups by skilled painters to enhance authenticity. A key feature of this installation is the integration of a 3DoF (Degrees of Freedom) hydraulic motion platform with necessary powerpack unit and control system, enabling realistic simulations of heave (vertical motion),
pitch (tilting forward/backward), and roll (tilting sideways). Engineered to handle a payload of approximately 3000 kg, the platform will be calibrated for smooth and responsive motion, synchronized with the VR audiovisual content. To further immerse the audience, the boat will include special effects modules such as aroma diffusers, directional wind, and vibration units under each seat, providing a realistic sensory layer that reacts to content-driven triggers. For the visitors' accessability, a staircase to be fabricated and for touch screen operation, a Kiosk to be fabricated. These systems will be seamlessly integrated to deliver a cohesive, immersive experience that merges artistic heritage, motion technology, and multi-sensory storytelling—creating a culturally engaging and technically advanced attraction for visitors.
