Digging, fault tracing, exposing, repairing and/or replacement of underground AFLS cable, including excavation by suitable manual/mechanical means in soft/loose soil, fault location and pinpointing, careful exposure of existing cable, removal of defective/damaged portion, cutting and preparation of cable ends, repairing by removal of damaged portion and jointing of the sound cable ends and/or laying and dressing of replacement cable supplied by Air Force, sand cushioning/covering, backfilling in layers, watering and compaction, restoration of existing brick protection and cable markers and making good the disturbed surface, complete all as specified and directed by the Engineer-in-Charge. NOTES: (1) The defect/fault in the AFLS circuit shall be reported/indicated by the Air Force/User to the Engineer-in-Charge. The Contractor shall be responsible for testing, fault tracing and pinpointing the defective portion of the cable using suitable testing/fault-location equipment before excavation, wherever practicable, and thereafter carrying out the required repair/replacement. (2) AFLS cable required for replacement shall be supplied by Air Force authorities. The Contractor shall collect the cable from the designated Air Force/MES store or location, transport it safely to the work site and remain responsible for its safe custody until incorporation in the work. Any loss, misuse or damage to the cable while in the Contractor's custody shall be made good by the Contractor by replacement with cable of the same type and specification or by recovery of its assessed cost, as decided by the competent authority. (3) Cutting/wastage of cable shall be kept to the minimum practicable extent. Any unavoidable cut pieces of usable length shall be preserved and returned to the Air Force/MES. No credit/payment shall be allowed for wastage, and any abnormal or unexplained shortage shall be recovered from the Contractor at the assessed cost. Contd........

M&L for providing and making complete epoxy resin or heat-shrink type joint of Primary AFLS cable, single core, 5000 V grade, 6 sq mm/3.87 sq mm stranded copper conductor, XLPE insulated, PE/PVC sheathed, using approved jointing kit suitable for the cable, including supply of complete jointing kit and all required accessories, materials and consumables such as ferrules, stress-control tube, insulation tube, sealant, mastic, heat-shrink components and other required materials, preparation of cable ends, jointing, insulation/sealing, mechanical protection, testing and commissioning, complete all as specified and directed by the Engineer-in-Charge, the completed joint being suitable for operation from -25°C to +90°C, having dielectric strength not less than 25 kV/mm and insulation resistance not less than 10 MΩ complete all as specified and directed.

M&L for providing and making complete epoxy resin or heat-shrink type joint of Secondary AFLS cable, 2 Core × 2.5 sq mm stranded copper conductor, IEC Class-5, rubber insulated, cross-linked elastomer insulation and oil-resistant outer sheath, 1 kV grade, using approved jointing kit suitable for the cable, including supply of complete jointing kit and all required accessories, materials and consumables, preparation of cable ends, jointing, insulation/sealing, mechanical protection, testing and commissioning, complete all as specified and directed by the Engineer-in-Charge, the completed joint being suitable for operation from -25°C to +90°C, having dielectric strength not less than 25 kV/mm and insulation resistance not less than 10 MΩ

Opening, relaying and closing of AFLS cable trenches of length not exceeding 10 m and depth not exceeding 2 m, including excavation, removal and disposal of surplus earth, dressing of trench, relaying/closing and compaction, restoration/repair of inset light pits, CI boxes and associated PCC/brickwork, as required, complete. All necessary precautions shall be taken to avoid damage to existing cables, pipelines and other services; any damage caused during execution shall be immediately rectified by the Contractor at his own cost, complete all as specified and directed by the Engineer-in-Charge. NOTE: One job shall comprise the complete execution of the above operations at one location, as directed by the Engineer-in-Charge, irrespective of the number of trenches/pits/CI boxes requiring restoration at that location, subject to the above maximum trench length and depth.

Clearance of vegetation and removal of accumulated soil around and cleaning of inset lights, CI boxes and AFLS cable trenches, including removal of dust, insects and accumulated water from inset lights and CI boxes and painting of AFLS equipment with paint supplied by Air Force after proper preparation of old paibted surfaces and disposing of all foliage/debris etc to a distance not exc 100 metres complete all as specified and directed by the Engineer-in-Charge. NOTE: One job shall comprise the complete execution of the above operations at one location as directed by the Engineer-in-Charge, limited to vegetation clearance and cleaning within 2.0 m radius of the concerned inset light/CI box and within 2.0 m length of the associated AFLS cable trench. All T&P and consumables required for the job are deemed to be included in the quoted rate.

Clearance of vegetation and removal of accumulated soil in and around AFLS earthing system, including exposing and making accessible the earthing electrodes/test points and associated connections, as required for inspection and maintenance, and disposal of debris to a lead exceeding 50 m but not exceeding 100 m, complete all as specified and directed by the Engineer-in-Charge. NOTE: One job shall comprise complete vegetation clearance and removal of accumulated soil within a radius of 1.0 m around one AFLS earthing electrode/test point, including exposing the electrode/test point and associated connections to the extent required for inspection and maintenance and making good the disturbed area on completion
