General examination during engine stopped condition- Visual examination of all electric cabinets, main generator, exciter alternator, auxiliary generator, traction motors, eddy current clutch for dirt, flash over & overheating, loose covers, screws & leads, and other defects, with engine shut down. Rectification with replacement of Parts as necessary.
General examination during engine running- Check the following for operation, unusually high temperature, noise or odour:- 1. Crankcase exhauster motor. 2. Fuel booster pump motor. 3. Auxiliary generator. 4. Alternator. 5. Traction Motors
Main generator- Overhauling: 1. Remove the generator covers & blow out with clean, dry comp. air. Wipe off any oil or grease with a cloth dipped in an approved cleaning solvent. 2. Teflon insulating sleeves on the brush holder support studs should be cleaned. The brush holder insulator and end should be cleaned. 3. Inspect carbon brushes; replace, if required. 4. Inspect brush holders, pressure springs, shunts and levers, replace if necessary. 5. Check up clearance between carbon brush and brush holder. Check up free movement of carbon brush in brush holder. 6. Inspect the commutator. Clean and resurface. Inspect leads and connections; these should be clean and tight.
Aux. Generator- Overhauling: 1. Remove cover and blow out with dry compressed air. Wipe off any oil or grease by suitable cleaning solvent. 2. Inspect brushes; replace, if required. 3. Inspect brush holders, pressure springs, levers etc. . 4. Inspect brush holders, pressure springs, levers etc. Replace parts as necessary. 5. Inspect commutators and v-rings. Clean and resurface. 6. Replace parts as necessary. 7. Ensure that connections are tight.
Exciter- Overhauling: 1. Remove cover and blow out around brush holders and slip rings with dry compressed air. 2. Inspect brush holder assemblies, slip rings and leads. 3. Remove and inspect brushes. 4. Inspect brush holders, shunts, terminals, insulators etc. 5. Check and adjust spring pressure. Check clearance between brush holder and commutator. 6. Examine armature, field coils and connections. 7. Examine flash ring. 8. Replace parts as necessary.
Fuel pump motor- 1. Clean dirt from openings, inspect covers, terminal connections etc. 2. Remove covers & blow out with dry compressor air. Wipe off any dirt, oil or grease accumulations from inside the frame. 3. Clean the insulators on the brush holder supports. Do not sand or paint insulators. Wipe with a clean dry cloth. 4. Clean the commutator string band and cable connections. 5. Check varnished surfaces of the armature and field coils for cracks, flaking. 6. Check brush pigtail screws for tightness. 7. Check brush holder & brush connection. 8. Check all carbon brushes condition, replace if necessary. Check clearance between carbon brush & brush box. 9. Record fuel pump current with current breaker ‘on’ and radiator fan working.
Crankcase exhauster motor- Overhauling:1. Clean dirt from openings, inspect covers, terminal connections etc. 2. Remove covers & blow out with dry compressor air. Wipe off any dirt, oil or grease accumulations from inside the frame. 3. Clean the insulators on the brush holder supports. Do not sand or paint insulators. Wipe with a clean dry cloth. 4. Clean the commutator string band and cable connections. 5. Check varnished surfaces of the armature and field coils for cracks, flaking. 6. Check brush pigtail screws for tightness. 7. Check brush holder & brush connection. 8. Check all carbon brushes condition, replace if necessary. Check clearance between carbon brush & brush box.
Dust exhauster blower motor- Overhauling: 1. Clean dirt from openings, inspect covers, terminal connections etc. 2. Remove covers & blow out with dry compressor air. Wipe off any dirt, oil or grease accumulations from inside the frame. 3. Clean the insulators on the brush holder supports. Do not sand or paint insulators. Wipe with a clean dry cloth. 4. Clean the commutator string band and cable connections. 5. Check varnished surfaces of the armature and field coils for cracks, flaking. 6. Check brush pigtail screws for tightness. 7. Check brush holder & brush connection. 8. Check all carbon brushes condition, replace if necessary. Check clearance between carbon brush & brush box.
Dynamic blower motor- Overhauling: 1. Clean and inspect covers, terminal connection etc. 2. Remove covers and blow out with dry compressed air. 3. Clean insulators on brush holder supports. 4. Clean the commutator string band and cable connections. 5. Inspect carbon brushes, varnished surfaces of armature, field coils, brush pigtail screws etc. 6. Check all carbon brushes condition, replace if necessary. Check clearance between carbon brush & brush box.
Engine Governor- Overhauling: 1. Remove cover and blow out with dry compressed air. Wipe off any oil or grease by suitable cleaning solvent. 2. Inspect brushes; replace, if required. 3. Inspect brush holders, pressure springs, levers etc. . 4. Inspect brush holders, pressure springs, levers etc. Replace parts as necessary. 5. Inspect commutators and v-rings. Clean and resurface. 6. Replace parts oil seals, Gasket, Bearings, 'O' rings, Lock Washers as necessary. 7. Ensure that connections are tight.
All relays- opened and overhauling to be done. Replace any part as necessary.
All power contactors & Ck1, Ck2- opened and overhauling to be done. All contactors copper tips to be checked, cleaned & replaced if necessary.
GF contactor- overhauling to be done. All contactors copper tips to be checked, cleaned & replaced if necessary.
Bkt, reverser- Check all contacts, cleaning by air blowing & rectified/replaced if necessary.
Electro-magnetic clutch - 1. Overhauling. 2. Check brush holder & brush connection. 3. Check all carbon brushes condition, replace if necessary. Check clearance between carbon brush & brush box.
Traction motors- Overhauling: 1. Remove covers and blow out interior of motor with clean, dry compressed air. 2. Inspect commutator and wipe off any oil or grease. Clean and resurface it. 3. Clean the outer ‘V’ ring & check its condition. 4. Inspect carbon brushes and brush holders. 5. Check for any solder run out and flash over. 6. Check clearance between bottom of brush holder and surface of commutators. 7. Replace parts as necessary.
Control Circuit Fault Finding- Check Control circuit for any fault.
Voltage regulator- Check adjustment of voltage regulator and adjust to 72_+1%. Replacement of any part if necessary.
Control equipment terminal connectors- Check and tighten the loose connections.
Control equipment shunts- Check and renew worn, frayed, broken or corroded braided shunts.
Control equipment contact tips- 1. Pneumatic contactors: check and smoothen burnt surfaces. 2. Magnetic contactors: check and renew badly pitted ones. 3. All other contact tips: inspect and clean with a solvent. 4. Adjust stationery fingers to re-set out of tolerance. 5. Inspect reverser interlocks.
Hot engine alarm switch- Check for loose connections and proper operation. Set alarm at 90 degC and engine coming to idle at 95degC. Rectification if necessary.
Power knock out switch- Clean contacts, tips and inspect. Check connections. Rectification & replacement of parts if necessary.
Engine starting and stopping buttons- Inspect and clean buttons. Rectification & replacement of parts if necessary.
Electrical speedometer- Clean and calibrate.
Lubricating oil pressure switch- Check for loose connections and proper operation.

Engine safety relay(ESR11), Loco Overspeed relay (LOSR31), Transmission Control relay (TCR31)- Check for loose connections and proper operation. Rectification if necessary.
Engine Terminal Box (ETB11-Front)- Check for loose connections and proper operation. Rectification if necessary.
Main Control Box (Front) MCB-11- Check for loose connections and proper operation. Rectification if necessary.
Knife Switch, Engine Overspeed Switch, Air pressure switch, push button switch- Clean contacts, tips and inspect. Check for loose connections and proper operation. Rectification & replacement of parts, if necessary.
All meters- Check for loose connections and proper operation. Rectification if necessary.
Electrical Circuit Fault Finding- Check Electrical circuit for any fault.
