Farm Operations

Planting work: i)Seed cane cutting and planting ii)Basal dose of fertilizer application seed cane cutting, Cane stripping, sizing, bagging, transporting through tractor provided by the farm, spreading and arranging setts in rows, and covering with soil.

Pits making for planting of ground nursery and transporting of seedling to field, fertilizers application and planting work.

Spraying operations: Transportation of water to the field in pots, spraying herbicides, insecticides and fungicides in fallow land and standing crop using manual or motorized knapsack sprayer, cleaning of the sprayers.

Hand hoeing and weeding : Uprooting weeds using hand hoes, transporting out of the field, loading on to tractor trailer and unloading at a dumping sites.

Fertilizer top dressing and half earthing up: Application of fertilizers in furrows and half earthing up with spades to cover the applied fertilizers.

Fertilizer top dressing and full earthing up: Application of fertilizers in furrows and heavy earthing up with spades to cover ridges into furrows.

Wet earthing up

De-trashing : Removal of dried trash in the standing cane, removing grownup weeds between rows, transporting out of the field, bundling, loading on the trailer provided by the farm and unloading in the manure pits.

Ratoon operations: Stubble shaving, off-barring, fertilizer and manure application and closing the fertilizer and manures.

Harvesting and loading : Cutting, de-trashing and de-topping, bundling, transporting and loading on lorry

Cane weighing in experimental plots: Weighing harvested cane plot-wise using hanging/platform scale as per the requirement of the scientists and tying the loosened bundles after weighing

Juice analysis: Cutting treatment/clonewise cane samples, transportation, crushing, data recording in cane samples and assisting in the lab work including juice clarification, cleaning of laboratory glass/plastic ware, worktable and lab floor

Irrigation, cleaning field paths and bunds, CCT cane cutting, sample collection, fluff cleaning, crossing, maintenance of tissue culture nursery, ground nursery, yard, lawn etc. and other miscellaneous and unforeseen field works

Tractor drivers: Tractor drivers with a valid driving licence, trained in all field operations using different tractor drawn implements, operation of trailers in the field and on-road, maintenance of the implements and attending minor repair, maintaining the tractor by checking and refilling engine oil, gear oil, hydraulic oil, radiator coolant/water, diesel, greasing, washing, checking and maintaining air pressure in tyres, changing tyres, minor repairs like changing diesel tubes, oil seals, O rings, Charging/changing battery etc., maintaining log books, reporting the work done to the Farm and take instructions for the next day work
