Determination of SBC of soil by performing necessary test such as SPT/DCPT whichever is suitable by Boring 4’ dia bore hole upto 10M depth/refusal or in case of gravel/rocky strata then open pit upto 3M depth below FGL alongwith DCPT at suitable interval 2M/refusal whichever is easier, collection of sample (disturbed or undisturbed) their complete analysis as per relevant IS code taking SSWL, other Engg and index properties and evaluation of SBC with field and lab test results, recommendation for safe bearing capacity. Photographic records and locations of testing on site plan shall be included in report. Work shall be executed as per IS 1892-93, IS-2131 and other relevant IS codes which include the determination of:- (a) Atterberg limits (b) Natural moisture (e) Wet and dry density (d) Soil particle size distribution using sieve/hydrometer analysis (e) Tri axial shear test C&D determination (f) Shrinkage limit (g) Consolidation limit (h) Specific gravity test for sand/rock (j) Crushing strength of rock samples (k) Permeability test (l) Chemical analysis of ground water sample (Minimum 02 samples) (m) Free soil index (n) Chemical analysis of soil Notes:- (i) All work will be executed in presence of executive of GE (AF) Pathankot. Photography record of Geo-exploration as well as testing shall be also from part of the report (min three photographs per bore hole duly annotated as directed by Engr-in-Charge). SBC report shall be submitted in quadruplicate. (ii) Rate including all items of works necessary for carrying out complete soil exploration work. Collection of sample testing at laboratory and field result and submission of reports. (iii) Rate includes for submission of detailed recommendation for shallow foundation and bearing capacity of soil (SBC) at 1.5 Mtr, 2.0 Mtr & 2.5 Mtr depth. Type of foundation and depths of footing be clearly specified. (iv) In case, very weak soil strata is encountered, recommendation about pile foundation i.e. Type dia depth of pile, safe load bearing capacity and socketing of pile into hard rock shall be clearly given in the report. Also measures for ground improvement if required be included in the report. Safe bearing capacity shall be worked out based on N value, shear failure and settlement criteria. (v) RL of ground level/footing level wrt a BM should be included in the soil investigation (vi) Recommendation of SBC should be given for:- (a) All the bore holes (b) Minimum of three depth viz 1.5m, 2.0m and 2.5m (c ) SBC should be worked out minimum for the following size and type of footing as applicable. (aa) 1.5 m x 1.5 m (ab) 1.5 m x 2.5 m (ac) 2.0 m x 2.5 m (ad) 2.0 m x 3.0 m (vii) Recommendation as regards possibility of liquefication of soil in case of saturated/partially saturated, loose/uncompacted sandy soils (viii) Recommendation for filling (if required) may also be included in test report (ix) Swelling index and swelling pressure in respect of black cotton & its depth in layers. (x) Depth of ground water table (GWT) in peak monsoon (lowest) and peak summer (highest) after correlation of result with seasonal variation of water table in the station.
