2.0 GENERAL FUNCTION AND DESCRIPTION
General Function
Package Air Conditioning Units are intended for heat removal from operating
equipment, cooling and air de-dusting in the rooms and the compartments of the
buildings of nuclear power plant.
An air conditioning unit utilizes the vapor compression refrigeration cycle to cool
refrigerant and reject the heat collected from the refrigerant plus the heat from the
compressor to ambient air.
Ozone-safe/ eco-friendly refrigerant is to be used in the Air Conditioning Units.
During operation the refrigerant is compressed in compressor from evaporation
pressure up to condensation pressure. Thereafter it comes into condenser, where it is
cooled and condensed by ambient air. Then liquefied refrigerant is further cooled by
throttling and comes into evaporator. In the evaporator the refrigerant gets heated
and evaporated owing to the heat, taken from the air-conditioned area.
Package AC is bigger version of common window/ split ac having higher cooling rates.
Units are intended for heat removal from operating equipment, cooling and air de-
dusting in the rooms and the compartments of the buildings of nuclear power plant.
Air cooled package air conditioner (PAC) units having scroll compressor are envisaged
to cater to the air conditioning load.
The packaged indoor evaporative units shall be kept in PAC room where as
condensing unit shall be kept outside the PAC Room /Passage area / Roof. Outlet of
all the package units shall be collected in a common plenum chamber through flexible
canvass connection & volume control dampers. The conditioned air is the n
distributed to various AC areas through duct along with diffuser(with volume control
damper) running above false ceiling. The return air from all these areas shall be
collected above false ceiling & shall be taken back to the PAC room.
