Arresting of Water Leakages in the Expansion Joints (2 Nos.) of Penstock of CHEP I, Udhampur

• Dismantling of existing expansion joint assemblies by removal of cover plates, studs, nuts, washers, and flux/asbestos packings. Cleaning and surface preparation of sealing grooves and mating faces to remove rust, corrosion scales, and residual sealant. Replacement of fasteners including. Supply and installation of new studs, (Grade 8.8 hot-dip-galvanized) with matching nuts and washers. Supply and installation of flex packing seal , high-temperature, high-pressure resistant synthetic packing , placed uniformly in groove and tightened to specified torque. Reassembly of expansion joint components ensuring correct alignment, uniform tightening sequence, and concentricity of joint. Greasing and corrosion protection of exposed surfaces with suitable anti-corrosive compound, followed by touch-up of disturbed paintwork using approved epoxy system. Testing and commissioning of the repaired joints with zero visible leakage. All dismantled metallic components (old studs, nuts, plates) shall be handed over to the divisional store for classification as serviceable or unserviceable. Removed asbestos-based or flux sealing material, if any, shall be handled and disposed of as hazardous waste under Hazardous and Other Wastes Regulations , ensuring no on-site burial or burning. Ultrasonic Thickness Testing (UT) shall be carried out on the adjacent penstock shell plates and weld regions on either side of each repaired expansion joint to assess the soundness and remaining wall thickness of the pipe section. The testing shall conform to relevant standards pertaining to Ultrasonic Testing of Welds in Steel. UT shall be performed by a qualified NDT technician using calibrated equipment. A detailed UT Test Report indicating measured thickness, locations, and any observed wall thinning or discontinuities shall be submitted with the Commissioning Reports as per detailed scope of work mentioned in SBD
