cycle, arrangement shall be made for glass-wool and tarpaulin.
9. Insulation tester/megger shall be arranged for taking IR/PI, during drying out process to complete
required bath tub formation.
10. If the new transformer oil is to be used for replacement/ adding then BDV of each barrel shall
be checked and noted. In case, the BDV value of barrel is found 30 KV or less, such barrel
shall be kept aside and shall not to be used.
2 Transformer checking (Before Filtration) in scope of GETCO:
1. The transformer oil routine test of oil like, BDV, PPM, Resistivity, etc. shall be checked.
2. Low voltage test of transformer and its IR, PI, Tan delta shall be done. If possible, SFRA test
shall also be done.
3. If the winding resistance is not gradual, then, tap changer shall be attended.
4. If the transformer OTI and WTI are not working, it shall be replaced first.
5. Transformer buchholze relay, OSR relay, breathers, PRV, etc. shall be checked properly so that, if
they are not working, they shall be replaced.

1. Filter outlet temperature.
2. Ambient temperature.
3. OTI temperature
The graph of IR/PI versus time shall be prepared, which should be around bath tub.
Transformer’s inlet and outlet PPM should be almost same. Filtration should be continued till
PPM comes within the limit.

8. Air drain to be done through all air drain plugs of transformer. (all radiator, bushing and main tank).
9. SFRA and tan delta of transformer shall be taken.
10. Low voltage testing shall be carried out and tripping logic and annunciation of transformer shall be
11. After getting permission to charge the transformer, it shall be charged by HV and kept for
hours in soak charge condition. During this process, temperature of OTI and WTI shall be checked
hourly to see that, there is no abnormality in transformer.
12. After removing the oil sample for DGA, transformer shall be switched off and air shall be
drained from each plug.
13. After charging the transformer, it shall be made parallel after comparing the tapping voltage of
other transformer for taking load.
14. After taking load on transformer, DGA test shall be carried out after 24 hours.
(B) Correction factor to convert IR value as per temperature:
(As per circular No. CE(TR)/ACE(Testing)/General/15/269 dated 23/02/2012)
Sr. No. Temperature difference K factor
If IR measured at 60º C is 100 M ohm and if we want to convert the same at 40º C, then the
difference is 20ºC (60-40). Hence, it is to be multiplied by K factor (2.6) corresponding 20º C i.e.
IR value at 40º C will be 100 x 2.6 = 260 M ohm.
