Cutting the edges of old joints filled with PU/ Grade 'B' sealing compound of width exceeding 5 mm but not exceeding 12 mm by racking out old sealing compound from existing joints of tarmac to depth as required (subject to minimum depth of 35 mm) by special tools like cutting blades / grinding machines (use of hammers is prohibited to avoid damage to the edges) and removing old filled sealing compound from the joints by means of compressed air using hand blowers and disposal of retrieved material from old joints to a distance exceeding 1.00 km but not exc 2 km where directed and filling the joints by mechanical means as per following process: - (i) Provision of Backer rod of suitable dia to be inserted in the joint tightly as specified. (ii) Provision of adequate masking tape on either sides of joint to avoid spillage on concrete surface before applying joint sealant and removing the same after sealing of joints. (iii) Filling PU sealing compound properly for a depth of not less than 10mm for joints up to 32mm wide and 15mm for joints above 32mm wide after application of primer as directed by Engineer-in-Charge. (The finished level of sealed joints shall be on an average 3 mm below the top surface of slabs) NOTE: - (i) PU Sealing compound & Primer shall be issued by the MES under Schedule 'B' free for filling/ application. (ii) Quoted rate shall include for all other material components
