ITEM NO –3: Excavation for foundation for loose and soft soil including sorting out and
stacking of useful materials and disposing of the excavated stuff up to
meter lead incl. dewatering forexcavationinwetcondition
All sorts of soil
Any soil which generally require close application of picks or jumpers or scarifies to
loosen it stiff sand, gravel, clay soft and murum etc. including shoring, strutting
dewatering as necessary etc. fall under this category.
1.1. Any soil which generally yields to the application of pickaxes and shovels, phawaras
rakes or any such ordinary excavating implement or organic soil, gravel silt, sand turf
loam, clay, peat etc., fail under this category
2.0. Clearing the site
2.1. The site on which the structure is to be built shall be cleared, and all obstructions loose
stone, materials and rubbish of all kind bush wood and trees shall be removal as
directed The materials so obtained shall be property of the Government and shall be
conveyed und stacked as directed with all lead. The roots of the trees coming in the
sides shall be cut and coated with a hot asphalt
2.2. The rate of side clearance is deemed to beincluded in the rate of earth work for which no
extrawill be paid.
3.0. Setting out
After clearing the site the center lines willbe given by the Engineer-in-charge. The
contractor shall assume full responsibility for alignment, elevation and dimension of each
and all 'parts of the work. Contractor shall supply labours materials, etc. required for
setting out the reference marks and bench 'marks and shall maintain them as long as
required and directed.
4.0. Excavation
The excavation in foundation shall be carried out in true line and level and shall have the
width and depth as shown in the drawings or as directed. The contractor shall do the
necessary shoring and shutting or providing necessary slopes to a safe angle, at his own
cost. The payment for such precautionary measures shall be paid separately it not
specified. The bottom of the excavated area shall be leveled both longitudinally and
transversely as directed by removing and watering as required no. earth filling will be
allowed for brining it to level, if by mistake or any excavation is made deeper or wider
than, that shown on the plan or directed. The extra depth or width shall be made up with
concrete of same proportion as specified for the foundation concrete at the cost of the
contractor. The excavation up to1.50 mt. depth shall be measured under this item.
5.0. Disposal of the excavated stuff
5.1. The excavated stuff of the selected type shall be used in filling the trenches and plinth or
leveling the ground in layers including ramming and watering etc.
5.2. The balance of the excavated quantity shall be removed by the contractor from the site
of work to a place as directed with lead up to all lead and lift.
6.0. Mode of measurements & payment
6.1. The measurement of excavation in trenches for foundation shall be made according to
the sections of trenches shown on the drawing or as per sections given by the Engineer-
in-charge. No payment shall be made for surplus excavation made in excess of above
requirements or due to stopping and sloping back as found necessary on account of
conditions of soil and requirements of safety.
6.2. The rate shall befor a unit of one cubic meter.
ITEM NO –4: Providing and laying controlled cement concrete M25 for bottom plug for
well in drycondition, including ramming and curing or under water by
tremie or any other suitable method complete
The work shall be executed as per specification of Item No. 5 except the work is
for Providing and cast in situ C.C. in grade M-25 proportions of ingredients as per mix
design by weigh batching using granite, quartzite trap metal of size 12 mm to 20 mm
and or 6 mm to 12 or 6 mm to 12 mm mm including scaffolding centering formwork,
needle vibrated consolidation, curing and hydraulic testing etc. complete
(excluding cost of reinforcement) with centering & shuttering/ deshuttering etc.
for all water retaining structures. e) Sump kerb, Staircase
ITEM NO –5: Providing and casting in situ Controlled Cement Concrete M- 300 for Well
curbs including necessary shuttering, laying, vibrating and curing complete..
The work shall be executed as per specification of Item No. 5 except the work is
for Providing and cast in situ C.C. in grade M-30 proportions of ingredients as per mix
design by weigh batching using granite, quartzite trap metal of size 12 mm to 20 mm
and or 6 mm to 12 or 6 mm to 12 mm mm including scaffolding centering formwork,
needle vibrated consolidation, curing and hydraulic testing etc. complete
(excluding cost of reinforcement) with centering & shuttering/ deshuttering etc.
for all water retaining structures. b) R.C.C. slabs and platform
ITEM NO –8: Supplying cutting, bending, binding and placing in position steel as per plan
and design and as per ISS 2502 including cost of steel and binding wire for
reservoirs/structures. Dodeformed (TMT) bars confirming to relevant IS Fe-
500grade for all diameters.
This work shall consist of furnishing and placing coated, or uncoated or high strength
deformed reinforcement, bars (intentioned) of the shape and dimensions shown on the
drawings and conforming to these Specifications or as approved by the Engineer in
Reinforcements may be either T.M.T. tensile steel, high strength deformed bars.
They may be uncoated or coated with epoxy or with approved protective coatings

free form free from dirt, paint, grease or oil, oil scale or loose or thick rust and any other
undesirable coating which may prevent adhesion of cement mortar at the time of

PROTECTION OF REINFORCEMENT
Uncoated reinforcing steel shall be protected from rusting or chloride
contamination. Reinforcements shall be free from rust, mortar, loose mill scale, grease,
oil or paints. This may be ensured either by using reinforcement fresh from the factory
or thoroughly cleaning all reinforcement to remove rust using any suitable method such
as sand blasting, mechanical wire brushing, etc. as directed by the Engineer.
Reinforcements shall be stored on bricks, racks or platforms and above the ground in a
clean and dry condition and shall be suitably marked to facilitate inspection and
identification.
Portions of uncoated reinforcing steel and dowels projecting from concrete shall
be protected within one week after initial placing of concrete with a brush coat of neat
cement mixed with water to a consistency, of thick paint. This coating shall be removed
by lightly tapping with a hammer or other tool not more than one week before placing
of the adjacent pour of concrete. Coated reinforcing steel shall be protected against
damage to the coating. If the coating on the bars is damaged during transportation or
handling and cannot be repaired, the same shall be rejected.
The work shall consist of furnishing and placing reinforcement to the shape and
dimensions shown as on the drawings or as directed by The Engineer in charge.
Reinforcing steel shall conform accurate to the dimensions given in the bar
bending schedules shown on relevant drawing.
BENDING OF REINFORCEMENT
Bar bend g schedule shall be furnished by the Contractor and got approved by
the Engineer before start of work.
Reinforcing steel shall conform to the dimensions and shapes given in the
approved bar bending Schedules
Bars shall be bent cold to the specified shape and dimensions or directed by the
Engineer using a proper bar bender operated by hand power to obtain the correct
radius of bends and shape.
Bars shall not be bent or straightened in a manner that willdamageparent
material or the coating bars bent during transport or handling shall, be straightened
before beinng used on work and shall not be heated to facilitate straightening
PLACING OF REINFORCEMENT
The reinforcement cage should generally be fabricated in the yard at ground
level, and then shifted and placed in position. The reinforcement shall be placed strictly,
in accordance with the drawings and shall be assembled in position, only when
structure is otherwise ready for placing of concrete. Prolonged time gap, between
assembling of reinforcements and casting of concrete, which may result in rust formation
on the surface, shall not be permitted.
Reinforcement bars shall be placed accurately in positionas shown on the
drawings. The bars, crossing one another shall be tied together at every intersection with
binding wire (annealed), conforming to IS:280 to make the skeleton of the reinforcement
rigid such that the reinforcement does not get displaced during placing of concrete, or
any other operation. The diameter of binding wire shall not be less than 1 mm.
Bars shall be kept in position usually by the following methods:
In case of beam an slab construction, industrially produced polymer cover blocks
of thickness equal to the specified cover shall be placed between the bars and formwork
subject to Satisfactory evidence that the polymer composition is not harmful to concrete
and reinforcement. Cover blocks made of concrete may be permitted by the Engineer,
provided they have the same strength and specification as those of the member.
In case of dowels for Columns and walls the vertical reinforcement shall be kept
in position by means of timber templates with slots in them accurately, or with cover
blocks tied to the Reinforcement Timber templates shall be removed after the concreting
has progressed up to a level just below their location.
Layers of reinforcements shall be separated by spacer bars at approximately
One-meter intervals. The minimum diameter of spacer bars shall be 12 mm or: equal to
maximum size of main reinforcement or maximum size of coarse aggregate, whichever
is greater. Horizontal reinforcement shall not be, allowed to sag between supports.
Necessary stays, blocks, metal chairs, spacers, metal hangers supporting wires
etc, or other subsidiary, reinforcement shall be provided to fix the reinforcements firmly
in its correct position.
Use of pebbles, broken stone, metal pipe, brick, mortar or wooden blocks etc as
devices for positioning reinforcement shall not be permitted
Bars coated with epoxy or any other approved protective coating shall be placed
on supports that do not damage the coating. Supports shall be installed in a manner
such that planes of weakness are not created in hardened concrete. The coated
reinforcing steel shall be held in place by use of plastic- or plastic-coated binding wires
especially manufactured for the purpose.
Placing and fixing of reinforcement shall be inspected and approved by the
Engineer before concrete is deposited.
All reinforcement shall be furnished in full lengths as indicated on the drawing.
No splicing of bars, except where shown on the drawing; will be permitted without
approval of the Engineer. The lengths of the splice shall be as indicated on drawing or
as approved by the Engineer. Where practicable, overlapping bars shall not touch each
other, and shall be kept apart by 25 mm or 1 1 1/4 times the maximum size of coarse
aggregate, whichever is greater, If this is not feasible, overlapping bars shall be bound
with annealed steel binding wire, not less than 1 mm diameter and twisted tight in such a
manner as to maintain minimum clear cover to the reinforcement from the concrete
surface. Lapped splices shall be staggered or located at points, along the span where
stresses are low.
Splicing by welding of reinforcement will be permitted only if detailed on the
drawing or approved by the Engineer. Weld shall develop an ultimate strength equal to
or greater than that of the bars connected.
While welding may be permitted for T.M.T. reinforcing bars conforming to IS:432,
welding of deformed bars conforming to IS: 1786 shall in general be prohibited. Welding
may be permitted in case of bars of other than S 240 grade including special. Welding
grade of S 415 grade bars conforming to IS:1786, for which necessary chemical analysis
has been secured and the carbon equivalent (CE) calculated from the chemical
composition using the formula:

The method of welding shall conform to IS:2751 and IS:9417 and to any
supplemental specifications to the satisfaction of the Engineer.
Bars shall be bent cold to the specified shape and dimensions oras directed by
Engineer in charge using the proper bender tool, operated by hand or power to attain
proper radius of bends. Bars shall not be bend or straightened in a manner that will
injure the material. Bars bent during transport or handling shall be straightened before
being used in the work. Bars shall not be heated to facilate bending.
Unlessotherwise specified a 'U' type hook at the end of each bar shall invariably
be provided to main reinforcement. The radius of the bane shall not be less then twice
the diameter of the round bar and the length of the straight part of the bar beyond the
end of the curve shall be at least four times of the diameter of the round bar. In case of
bars which are not round and in case of deformed bars, the diameter shall be taken as
the diameter of circle having an equivalent effective area. The hooks shall be suitably
encased to prevent any spiting of the concrete
All reinforcement bars shall be accurately placed in exact position shown on the
drawings and shall be securely held in position during placing of concrete by annealed
binding wire not less than 1 mm in size and by using say blocks or metal chairs spacers,
metal hangers, supporting wires or other approved devices at sufficiently close intervals,
Bars shall not be allowed to sag between supports not displaced during concreting or
any other operations of the work All devices used for positioning shall be of not
corrodible material wooden and metal supports shall not extended to the surface of the
concrete, except where shown in drawings. Placing bars on layers of freshly laid
concrete as the work progresses for adjusting bar spacing shall not be allowed. Pieces
of broken stone or brick and wooden blocs shall not be used Layers of bars shall be
separated by spacer bars pre-cast mortar blocks or other approved devices.
Reinforcement after bending placed in position shall be maintained in a clean condition
until completely embedded in concrete, Special care shall be exercised to prevent any
displacement of reinforcement in concrete already placed. To prevent reinforcement
form corrosion, concrete cover shall be provided as indicated on drawings. All bars
protruding from concrete and to which other bars are to be sliced and which are likely to
be exposed for a period exceeding 10 days shall be protected by a thick coat of neat

(annealed) of size not less than 1 mm in such a manner that they do not slip over at the
time of fixing and concreting

different diameters as actually used in work, excluding overlaps. From the length so

and annealed steel wire or other methods for binding and placing shall not be measured
and cost of these items shall be deemed to be included in the rates for reinforcement.

positionas shown on the drawings as per these specifications and as directed by the
Engineer, including all labour, equipment, supplies, incidentals, sampling, testing and

ITEM NO –10: Supplying, cleaning, cutting, bending, welding, fabricating, erecting
structural steel in position irrespective of locations and levels as per drawing
including handling and transport etc. complete including applying two coats
of primer red oxide and two coats of approved quality of paint over it etc.
complete as directed for gentry girder, platform, stairs, chequered plate for
cable trench etc.
MATERIALS: STRUCTURAL STEEL
All structural steel shall be complied with the requirements of IS 226-1961 and structural steel work IS
1915-1962 specifications for structural steel.
Steel for Pins and Rollers
Rolled steel pins and rollers, shall comply with requirements of the IS specifications appropriate for the
work. Steel casting for cast steel pins shall conform to grade 1 or 3 of IS 1030-1956 specifications for
steel casting (for general engineering purposes as appropriate).
Mild steel for bolts and nuts when tested shall comply with IS 1608-1960 and shall have tensile strength
of not less than 2500 Kg/cm2. Plain washers shall be made of steel.
Welding Electrode
Mild steel electrodes shall comply with requirements of IS 814-1957 specification for covered electrodes
for metal arc welding of mild steel.
All work shall be in accordance with the drawings and shall satisfy IS specification No. 1915-1961. Care
shall be taken to ensure that all parts in assembly fit accurately together. Notes or specifications on the
drawings supplied by the Engineer-in-Charge/consulting Engineer, are to be constructed as superseding
or cancelling any clause of this specifications with which they conflict. On all drawings dimensions shown
in figures shall be acted in preference to measurement by scale.
All structural steel members and parts shall have straight edges. All straightening shaping and levelling
etc. shall be done by pressure only and not by hammering. All joggles and knees shall be formed by
pressure and where practicable in making these, the metal shall not be cut and welded.
All structural steel parts where required shall be sheared, cropped sawn or flame cut and ground
accurately to the required dimensions and shape.
The diameter of bolts holes shall be 1.5 to 2.0 mm. larger than the nominal diameter of bolt. All holes
for bolts shall be drilled unless permitted by Engineer-in-Charge for punching the holes. Care shall be
taken, such as surrounding material is not deformed or damaged in case of punching the hole is allowed.
Welding of steel conforming to relevant IS specifications shall be in accordance with general
requirements of metal arc welding. In additional to general requirement, the following care shall be
(a) The welding shall be positioned for downward welding wherever practicable.
(b) The welding current shall conform with respect of voltage and ampere to the recommendations of
the manufacturers of the electrode being used. The arc length, voltage and ampere shall be suited to
the thickness of material, type of groove and other circumstances of the work.
(c) The surface to be welded and surrounding material for a distance of at least 155 mm shall be free
from scale, dirt, grease, paint, heavy rust or other surface deposit.
(d) Members to be welded shall be held in correct position by holes, clamps, wedges, jigs or other
suitable devices or by tack welding until welding has been completed, such fastening as may be used
shall be adequate to ensure safety. Suitable allowance shall be made for war page and shrinkage.
(e) Tack welds located where the final welds will later be made shall be subject to the same quality
requirements as final welds. Defective and broken tack welds shall be removed before final welding.
(f) Fusion faces shall be made or cut by shearing, chipping, machining or by gas cutting.
(g) Exposed faces of welds shall be made reasonably smooth and regular so as to conform as closely as
practicable to design requirements and shall not be of less than the required cross section.
(h) Finished welds and adjacent parts shall be protected with clean boiled linseed oil after all slag has
Safety Precautions
(a) Operators of welding and cutting equipment shall be protected from the rays of the arc flame
gloves and by helmet, hand shields, or goggles equipped with suitable filter lenses.
(b) Closed space shall be ventilated properly while welding is being gone therein.
(c) Welders should be provided with such staging as will enable them to perform the welding
operation. For site welding shelter should be provided to protect welders and the parts to be
welded from the weather.
The Constructor shall employ a competent welding supervisor to ensure that the standard of
workmanship and the quality of materials comply with requirements laid in this specification.
The Constructor shall provide free access to the representative of Engineer-in- Charge/Consulting
Engineer to the work being carried out at all reasonable times and facilities shall be provided so that
during the course of welding he may be able to inspect any layer of weld metal. He shall be at liberty to
reject any material that does not conform to the terms of the specifications and to require any defective
welds to be cut out and welded. The representative of the Engineer-in-Charge/Consulting Engineer shall
be notified in advance of any welding operations.
Inspection and testing of welds shall be done as laid down in IS 822 and IS
No welder shall be employed in any position expect those who are fully qualified to welding.
Qualification for welders shall be as laid down in IS
All steel work intended to be bolted together must be in contact over the whole surface. Joints which
have to take compressive stress and the ends of all stiffeners shall meet truly over the whole of the
butting surface.
All member shall be so arranged that they can be accurately assembled, without being unduly packed,
strained or forced into position and when built shall be true and free from twist kinks, buckets or open
joints between component pieces. Work shall be kept properly bolted together and no drifting shall be
allowed except for the purpose of drawing assembled sections together in accuracies in matching of
holes may be corrected. But drifting to enlarge holes is prohibited. Failure in any of the above respect
will involve the rejection of defective members.
Mode of Measurement and Payment
Measurement of this item shall be as per IS 1200(Part VIII) - 1974 or as per its latest revision so far as

ITEM NO –11: Grouting with 1:3 cement mortar for anchor bolt pockets machine bases,
pipe sleeves, pocket holes etc. including roughening and cleaning of concrete
surfaces curing etc.complete..
Grout shall be provided as specified on the drawings. The proportion of standard Grout shall be such as
to produce a flowable mixture consistent with minimum water content and shrinkage. Surface to be
grouted shall be thoroughly roughened and cleaned. All structural steel elements to be grouted, shall be
cleaned of oil, grease, dirt etc. The use of hot, strong caustic solution for this purpose will be permitted.
Prior to grouting, the hardened concrete shall be saturated with water and just before grouting water in
all pockets shall be removed. Grouting once started shall be done quickly and continuously. Variation in
grout mixes and procedures shall be permitted if approved by ENGINEER. The grout proportions shall be
limited as follows:

Non-shrink grout where called for in the Schedule of Quantities or specified on the drawings shall be
provided in strict accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions/ specifications on the drawings.
ITEM NO –12 Providing and applying with two coats 20 mm thick inside cement plaster with
OPC cement and water proofing agent on inside of inlet chamber, screen chamber, grit
chamber, wet well, consisting of 12 mm thick backing coat of C. M. 1:3 (1 cement : 3 sand)
and 8 mm thick finishing coat of C. M. 1:1 (1 cement: 1 sand) etc. complete including
necessary curing, scaffolding required if any etc. complete..
All joints in masonry shall be raked to a depth of 12 mm with a hooked tool made for the purpose when
the mortar is still green and in any case within 48 hours of its laying. The surface to be rendered shall be
washed with fresh clean water free from all dirt, loose plastering work is commended. Concrete surfaces
to be rendered will however be kept dry. The wall should not too wet but only damp at the time of
plastering. The damping shall be uniform to get uniform bond between the plaster and the wall. Cement
shall be sulphate resistance cement confirming to IS 12330 for underground work and in OPC for the
work above ground level.
The proportion if the mortar shall be as specified under the respective items of work. Cement shall be
mixed thoroughly in dry condition and then just enough water added to obtain a workable consistency.
The quality of water, sand and cement shall be as per IS: Standards. The mortar thus mixed shall be used
immediately and in no case shall the mortar be allowed to stand for more than 25 minutes after mixing
with water. Cement sulfates resistant cement conformity to IS: 12330 for underground work at OPC for
the work above ground low.
Curing of plaster shall be started as soon as the applied plaster has hardened enough so as not to be
damaged. The decision, as to when the plaster has hardened, will be given by the Engineer. Curing shall
be done by continuous applying water in a spray and shall carried out for at least 7 days.
Whenever the specifications or the item of work calls for water proofing, the Contractor shall provide
the percentage of water proofing compound as specified in the items of work.
Where lath plaster is specified, it shall be paid for at the same rate as for plasterwork without metal lath
except that separate payment for metal lath will be made.
Ceiling plaster shall be done before wall plaster and wall plaster shall commence at top and work
Interior plaster:
This plaster shall be laid in two coats of 12 and 8 mm for 20 mm and single coat for 15 mm & 10 mm
thickness. The mortar shall be dashed on the prepared surface with a trowel and finished smooth by
trowelling on the surface with neeru (lime cream). Neeru shall be properly slaked fat lime. The standard
of finish expected is high and shall conform to IS: 2394. Interior plaster shall be carried out on jambs,
lintel and sill faces, top and undersides etc. as shown in the drawing or as directed by the Engineer. Rate
quoted for plasterwork shall be deemed to include plastering of all those surfaces. However, if the item
of work includes plaster finish, no separate payment would be made under ‘plastering work’.
Exterior Plaster:
Exterior plasterwork shall be carried out in 2 layers. The first layer being 12 mm thick and the second
layer being 8 mm thick. The first layer shall be dashed against the prepared surface with a trowel to
obtain as even surface. The second layer shall then be applied and finished leaving as even and uniform
surface, trowel finished unless otherwise directed by the Engineer.
Exterior Sand Faced Plaster:
The plaster shall be applied in 2 coats. The first coat or the scratch coat should be approximately 12 mm
and shall be continuously carried be without break to the full length of wall or natural breaking points
such as doors, windows etc. The scratch coat shall be dashed on the prepared surface with heavy
pressure, brought to true and even surface and then lightly roughened by cross scratch lines, to provide
bond for the finishing coat. The mortar proportion for this scratch coat shall be as specified in the
respective item of work. The scratch coat shall be cured for at least 7 days and then allowed to dry.
The second coat shall be 8 mm thick and it shall not be applied until at least 10 days have elapsed after
the application of the scratch coat shall be evenly damped. This coat shall be applied from top to bottom
in one operation and without joints, finish shall be straight, true and even. The mortar proportions of
this coat shall be as specified under the respective item of work. Only approved white sand shall be used
for the second coat and for finishing work. Sand for finish shall be used for the second coat and for
finishing work. Sand for finish shall be even coarse size and shall be dashed on the surface and sponged.
Wherever 32 mm thick plaster has been specified, this is intended for purpose of providing beading,
bands etc. This work should be carried out in two or three layers and as directed by the Engineer.
In the case of pebble face finished plaster, pebbles of approved size and quality shall be dashed against
the final surface to obtain as far as possible uniform pattern. In all cases, workmanship shall conform to
ITEM NO –7: Providing and laying 50 mm thick cement concrete flooring in 1:2:4 (1
cement : 2 coarse sand : 4 graded stone aggregate 20 mm nominal size) including water
proofing compound finishing with a floating of neat cement etc. complete laid in one layer
finished including necessary curing with ordinary portlandcement at bottom of chambers..
If directed by the Engineer, the Contractor shall use approved waterproofing admixtures made
by reputed manufacturer in the mortar for plasterwork. The quantity to be used etc. shall be in
accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions subject however to the approval of the Engineer. These
admixtures shall not contain calcium chloride unless specifically allowed by Engineer and shall conform
to IS: 2645 with property of strong hydro phober and corrosion inhibitor. Dosage – 2% by weight of
cement i.e. 1 kg per 50 kg bag of cement. Manufacturer must comply ISO – 9002 specifications. Payment
shall be made for actual quantity of such admixture used unless it is already covered in the rates for the
work concerned.
MOSAIC, TERRAZZO AND PLAIN CEMENT TILING WORK IN FLOORING
The type, quantity, size, thickness, color etc. of the tiles for flooring and skirting work shall be of best
quality approved by the Engineer. For this purpose, the Contractor shall provide the Engineer with
necessary samples for his selection.
Before the tiling work of commenced, the sub-surface shall be thoroughly cleaned and washed of all
loose materials, dirt and scum or laitance and then well wetted without forming water pools on the
The tiles shall be laid on cement mortar bedding of about 20 to 25 mm thick. The proportion of mortar
shall be one part of cement, 6 parts of sand. The mortar shall be evenly spread on the sub-floor. The
tiles shall be fixed on this bed one after another, each tile being gently tapped with a wooden mallet till
it is properly bedded and in level with the adjoining tiles. The joints shall be perfectly straight and
uniform in thickness. The tiles shall be laid perfectly in level unless otherwise specified or required or
desired by the Engineer. After laying the tiles the joints shall be finished with white cement or cement of
approved color.
Floor tiles laid adjoining the wall shall project 12 mm under the plaster, starting or dado as may be
required by the Engineer. Half tiles and pieces shall not be avoided as far as possible. After laying, the
flooring shall be allowed to cure undisturbed for seven days. Design traffic shall not be allowed on the
floor for at least 14 days after laying the tiles.
About a week after laying the tiles, each and every tile shall be lightly tapped with a small wooden
mallet to find out if it gives a hollow sound; if it does, such tiles along with any other cracked or broken
tiles shall be removed and replaced with a new tile proper line and level. The same procedure shall be
followed again after the tiles are finally polished. For the purpose of ensuring that such replaced tiles
match with those earlier laid, it is necessary that the Contractor order enough extra tiles from the
factory to meet this contingency. The tiles shall finally be cleaned and polished by using dilute oxalic acid
or any other method recommended by the manufacturer and approved by the Engineer.
After the joints have developed sufficient strength, the floors shall be machine polished to the desired
finish as approved by the Engineer. Sufficient quantity of water shall always be used during polishing to
prevent scratching.
For dado and skirting work, the vertical surface shall be thoroughly cleaned and wetted. Thereafter it
shall be evenly and uniformly covered with about 12 mm thick 1:2 cement mortar. For this work the tiles
as obtained from the factory shall be of the size required and practically fully polished. The back of each
tile to be fixed shall be covered with a thin layer of near cement paste and the tile shall then be gently
tapped against the wall with a wooden mallet. This shall be done from the bottom off the surface
upwards. The joints shall be as close as possible and the work shall be truly vertical and flush. After the
work has set, hand polishing with carborandum stones shall be done so that the surface attains a high
glossy finish. Corners and junctions shall be finished true. The workmanship shall conform to IS:
The work is subject to the approval of the Engineer. If the Engineer rejects any portion of the work, the
same shall be removed and redone by the Contractor to the satisfaction of the Engineer at no extra cost
The procedure for laying and finishing cement tiles in floor and dado shall be as for mosaic tiles except
that in this case the tiles shall be cement tiles instead of mosaic / terrazzo tiles.
Unit of measurement for floor tiling, and dado shall be sq.m. or part thereof of the superficial
area. Actual quantity of tiling work carried out will be measured and paid for after making
deductions for openings etc. For skirting, unit of measurement shall be running meter for the
specified width
ITEM NO –15: Wall painting (two coats) with plastic emulsion paint of approved brand and
manufacture of undercoated wall surface to give an even shade including
thoroughly brushing the surface free from mortar dropings and other
foreign matter and sand papered smooth.
Water shall beconform M-1. The plastic emulsion shall conform to I.S.: 5411-
The painting work shall beforsubsequent coat of plastic emulsion paint of
approved brand& manufactures on undecorated wall surfaces to give an even shade as
Wherever scaffolding is necessary it shall be erected in such a way that as far as
possible on part of scaffolding shall rest against the surface to be wall painted. A
properly secured strong and well tied suspended platform (Zoola) may be used for white
washing. Where ladders are used pieces of old gunny bags shall be tied at top and
bottom to prevent scratches to the floors and walls. For wall painted of ceilings, proper
stage scaffolding shall be erected where necessary.
Preparation of surface:
The undecorated surface to be painted shall be thoroughly brushed from dust,
dirt, grease, mortar dropping and other foreignmatter and sand papered smooth. New
plaster surface shall be allowed to dry for at least 2 months before applications of plastic
All unnecessary nails shall be removed. Pitting in plaster shall be made good
with plaster again with a finegrade sand paper and made smooth. A coat of plastic paint
shall be applied over the patches. The surface shall beallowed to dry thoroughly before
the regular coat of paint is allowed. The surface affected by moulds, moss,fungi, algae
lichens, efflorescence etc. shall be treated in accordance with I.S; 2395 (Part 01)
Before applying paint, any unevenness shall be made good by applying putty made of
plaster of paris mixed with water onentire surface including filling up the undulation and
then sand papering the same after it is dry.
Preparation of Mix :
This shall be done as per manufacture's instructions. The thinning of emulsion is
to be done with water and not with turpentine. The quantity of thinner to be added shall
be as per manufacturer instructions.
Application :
Before pouring into small containers for use, the paint shall be stirred thoroughly
in item container. When applying also, the paint shall be continuously stirred in the
smaller container, so that its consistency is kept uniform.
The paint shall be laid on evenly and smoothly by means of crossing and laying
off the crossing andconsist of covering the area over with paint, brushing the surface
hard for the first time over and then, brushingalternately in opposite direction two or
three times and then finally brushing lightly in direction at right angles to thesame. In this
process, no brush Marks shall be left after the laying off is finished. No hair marks from
the brush orclogging of paint puddles in the corners of panels, angles of moldings, etc.
shall be left on the work. The fullprocess of crossing and laying off will constitute one
The paint shall be applied with brush or rollers. For undecorated surfaces, the
surface shall be treated withminimum two coats of cement water proofing paint. The
second or subsequent coat shall notbe started until the proceeding coat as become
sufficiently hard to resist marking by brushing being used.
The surface on finishing shall present a flat velvety smooth finish. It shall be even
and uniform in shadewithout patches, brush marks, paint drops etc.
Precautions :
(a) Old brushes if they are to be used with emulsion paints, shall be completely dried of
turpentine or oil paint by washing in warm soap water. Brushes shall be quickly washed
in water immediately after use and kept immersed in water fusing break periods to
prevent the paint from hardening on the brush.
(b) In the preparation of wall for plastic emulsion painting, no oil base petals shall be
used in filling cracks, holes etc.
(c) Splashes on floors etc. shall be cleaned out without delay as they will be difficult to
remove after hardening.
(d) Washing or surfaces treated with emulsion paint shall not be done within 3 to
weeks of application.
Protective measures :
The surface of doors, windows, floors, articles, of furniture etc. and such other
parts of the building not to be white washed shall be protected from being splashed
upon. Such surfaces shall be cleaned of paint splashed if any.
Mode of measurements and payment
All the work shall be measured in the decimal system as under:
(a) Dimensions shall be measured to the nearest 0.01 m.
(b) Area in individual item shall be worked out to the nearest 0.01 sq.m.
All the work shall be measured in sq. mt. Deductions for jambs, soffits, sills etc.
for openings not exceeding 0.5 sq. mt. each in area, for ends of joists, posts, beams,
girders, steps etc. not exceeding 0.5 sq mt. each in area and for openings exceeding
sq. mt. and not exceeding 3.0. sq. mt. each in area, deductions and additions shall be

In case of area of openings exceeding 3 sq. mt. each, deductions shall be made
for openings but jambs,soffits, sills shall be measured.
No deductions shall be made for attachment such as casing, conducts, pipe,
electric wiring and the like.
Corrugated surfaces shall be measured flat as fixed and not girth. The quantities
so measured shall beincreased by the following percentage and the resultant shall be
included with the general areas:
(a) Corrugated steel sheets……………………………………… 14%
(b) Corrugated A.C. sheets………………………………………. 20%
(c) Semi corrugated A.C. Sheets……………………………….. 10%

Cornices and other wall features, when they are not picked out in a different
finish/colour shall be girthedand included in the general area.
Extra payment shall be done on ceiling and sloping roofs.
The rate shall include the cost of ail materials, labour, scaffolding, protective
measures etc. involved in allthe operations described above.
The rate shall be for a unit of One sq. meter.
ITEM NO –16: Providing and fixing water tight construction or expansion joints 150 mm.
dia. Widethin ribbed PVC.
PVC (Vinyl) asbestos floor tiles shall have smooth surface and shall be homogenous. The tiles
shall be of best quality and of approved make and shall conform to IS:3461. The tiles shall be
plain or mottled. The color, finish and mottling shall match as per the sample approved by
Engineer. Plain tiles shall have the color uniformity distributed through the tile. Mottled tiles
shall have the colors distributed at random throughout the thickness of the tile. The material
shall not develop any toxic effect in service and shall not give disagreeable odor. The type,
thickness and size of tiles shall be as specified in the item of work. The PVC (Vinyl) asbestos floor
tiles when tested in accordance with the methods given in IS: 3464 shall conform to the
requirements specified in Table 1 of IS: 3461. The Contractor shall send test results along with
the sample for approval. The tiles used shall be of Marbles or approved equivalent and shall be
fixed on floor/walls as per the manufacturer’s specification.
ITEM NO –17: Brick work using common burnt clay building bricks having crushing
strength not less than 35kg / Sq. C. M. in ramp, steps and Foundation & Plinth in
cement morter1:6 (1 cement : 6 coarse sand) including racking out joints,
curing,scaffolding required if any etc. complete, as directed
Bricks shall conform to M-15. Cement mortar shall conform to M-11.
The proportion of the cement mortar shall be 1:6 (1 cement : 6 fine sand) by
Wetting of bricks:
The bricks requiredfor masonry shall be thoroughly wetted with clean water for
about two hours before use or as directed. The cessation of bubbles, when the bricks
are wetted with water is as indication of through wetting of bricks.
Bricks shall be laid in English bond unless directed otherwise. Half or cut bricks
shall not be used except when necessary to complete to bond; closures in such case
shall be cut to requiredsize and used near the ends of walls.
A layer of mortar shall bespread on full width for suitable length of the lower
course. Each brick shall first be property bedded and set home by gently tapping with
handle of trowel or wooden mallet. Its inside face shall be flushed with mortar before the
next brick is laid and pressed against it. On completion of course, the vertical joints shall
be fully filled from the top with mortar.
The walls shall be taken up truly in plumb. All courses shall be laid truly
horizontal and all vertical joint shall be truly vertical. Vertical joints in alternate course
shall generally be directly one over the other. The thickness of brick course shall be kept
The brick shall be laid with frog up wards. A set of tools comprising of wooden
straight edges, mason's spirit level, square half meter rub, and pins, string and plumb
shall be kept on the site of work for frequent checking during the progress of work.
Both the faces of walls of thickness greater than 23 cms. shall be kept in proper
place. All the connected brick work shall be kept not more than one meter over the rest
of the work. Where this is not possible, the work shall be raked back according to bond
(and not left toothed) at an angle not steeper than 45 degrees.
All futures, pipes, outlets of water, hold fasts of doors and windows etc. which are
required to be built in wall shall be embedded in cement mortar.
Bricks shall be so laid that all joints are quite flush with mortar. Thickness of
joints shall not exposed 12 mm. The face joints shall be raked out as directed by raking
tools daily during the progress of work, when the mortar is still green so as to provide
key for plaster or pointing to done.
The face of brick shall be cleaned the very day on which the work is laid and all
mortar dropping removed.
Green work shall be protected from rain suitably. Masonry work shall be kept
moist on all the faces for a period of seven days. The top of masonry work shall be kept
well wetted at the close of the day.
Preparation of foundation bed:
If the foundation is to be laid directly on the excavated bed, it shall be leveled,
cleared of all loose materials, cleaned and wetted before stating masonry, If masonry is
to be laid on concrete footing, the top of concrete shall be cleaned and moistened. The
contractor shall obtain the engineer's approval for the foundation bed before foundation
masonry is started. When pucca flooring is to be provided flush with the top to plinth, the
inside plinth offset shall be kept lower than the outside plinth top by the thickness of the
The frames of doors, windows, cupboards etc. shall be housed into the brick
work at the correct location and level as directed. The heavy steel doors, window frames
etc. shall be built in with work, but for ordinary steel doors and windows required opening
for frames, hold-fasts, etc., shall be in the wall and frame embedded later on in order to
avoid damage to the frames.
Necessary scaffolding shall be provided. The supports of the scaffolding shall be
sound and strong tied, together with horizontal pieces over which the scaffolding plunks
shall be fixed. Simple scaffolding shall be allowed normally. In this case scaffolding hole
shall rest in hole header horizontal coarse only. Minimum number of holes be left in brick
work for supporting horizontal scaffolding poles. The contractor is responsible for
providing and maintaining sufficiently strong scaffolding so as to withstand all loads likely
to come upon it.
For the face of brick work, where plastering is to be done, joints shall be racked
out to a depth not less than thickness of joints. The face of brick work shall be cleaned
and mortar dropping removed on very same day that brick work is laid.
Mode of measurements & payment
The masonry work of G.F. shall be measured and paidunder this itemrate
includes cost of all materials & labour.
Brick work in parapet shall be included in the corresponding masonry item of
floor immediately below the floor above which the parapet is built.
No deduction shall be made from quantity of brick work nor any extra payment
made for embedding in masonry of marking holes in respect of following item.
Ends of joints, beams, posts, girders, rafters, purlins trusses corbel, steps, etc.
where cross sectional area does not exceed 500 sq.cm.
Opening not exceed in 1000 sq.cm.
Wall plate sand bed plates bearing of slab, chhajjas, and like whose thickness
does not exceed 10 cms. and the bearing does not extend the full thickness of wall.
Drainage holes and recesses for cement concrete blocks to embed hold fasts for
doors, window etc.
Iron fixtures, pipes up to 300 mm. dia. hold fasts of doors, and window built into
masonry and pipes etc. for concealed wiring.
Forming charges of section not exceeding 350 sq.cm. in masonry.
Apparatuses for fire places shall not be deducted nor shall extralabourrequired to
make splaying of jumps, throating and making trenches over the aperture be paid for

ITEM NO –21: Filling with available excavated earth (excluding rock) in trenches, plinth,
sides of foundation in layers not exceeding 20 cm in depth consolidating each
deposited layer by ramming and watering..
The earth to be used for filling shall be free from salts, organic or other
foreignmatter all clots of earth shall be broken.
As soon as the work in foundation has been completed and measured the site of
foundation shall be cleared of all debris brick bats mortar dropping etc. and filled with
earth in layers not exceeding 20 cms. each layer shall be adequately watered, rammed
and consolidated before the succeeding layer is laid. The earth shall be rammed with
iron rammers where feasible and with the ends of crow-bars, where rammer cannot be
The plinth shall be similarly filled with earth in layers not exceeding
cmsadequately watered and consolidated by ramming with iron or wooden rammers.
When filling reaches finished level the surface shall be flooded with water for at least
hours and allowed to dry and then rammed and consolidated.
The finished level of filling shall be kept to shape intended to be given to floor.
In case of large heavy duty flooring like factory flooring, the consolidation may be
done by power rollers, where so specified. The extent of consolidation required shall
also be as specified.
Mode of Measurements & Payment
The payment shall be made for filling in plinth and trenches. No deduction shall
be made for shrinkage or voids, if consolidatedas instructed above.
The rate shall befor a unit of one cubic meter.
ITEM NO –22: Dewatering by pumping set of required capacity includlng temporary
plaltformcarting pumping at site and fixing the same in position including all
accessories and fuel and labour etc. complete.
Contractor should take into account the subsoil and ground water conditions, which may be
encountered, particularly the running sand conditions at work site and shall adequately allow for shoring
/ strutting and dewatering by pumping.
Drainage channels and sumps shall be provided in the pit to drain all surface and ground water by
pumping. Contractor shall dewater and maintain excavated pits dry at all times by use of dewatering
sump pumps including ancillary equipment for the construction of substructure SPS during actual
excavation; laying PCC and RCC, inspection, testing and backfilling etc. or as directed by Engineer at the
site where inflow of ground water in the opinion of Engineer Obstructs the progress of work, leads to
insanitary conditions by stagnation, retards the speed of construction, is detrimental to the safety of
workers, materials, structure, equipment and such other causes. The ground water level shall be
lowered well below the founding level to provide dry firm working conditions and to prevent sand
boiling or bottom heave with consequent loss of bearing capacity. Heavy pumping in excavation which
may result in removal of fine material from soil shall be avoided. Contractor shall ensure that there is no
damage to existing adjoining structures due to dewatering operations. Contractor shall also make
necessary arrangements for the disposal of drained water to nearby storm water drain or nullah if
allowed by Engineer or up to a lead of 100 m from excavated trench / pit as directed by Engineer. In no
case removal of water shall be allowed to spread over the adjoining area.
Contractor shall exercise his own judgement regarding the extent of pumping required and approximate
size of dewatering pumps as other facilities required to keep the excavation dry. Contractor shall submit
his scheme and also indicate sequence of operation, limits of excavation and the capacity and other
details of the equipment and accessories he intends to use for dewatering during the construction and
the number, capacity and location of pumps etc. The Contractors shall bring to site only such equipment
and accessories, which are approved by Engineer in writing. The contractor shall provide adequate
standby arrangement for pumping in case of electric power failure / mechanical failure.
No separate payment whatsoever shall be made for dewatering if required to be done during
excavation, laying PCC and construction of RC substructure up to the plinth level, laying and jointing of
pipes, construction of manholes, inspection, testing and backfilling etc. and Contractor should quote
ITEM NO –24: Distempering in 3 coats with oil bound distemper of approved brand and
manufacture and of required shade on wall surface to give an even shade over
and including a primer coat with distemper primer of approved brand,
thoroughly brushing the surface free from mortar dropping and other foreign
material and also inclusive of preparing the surface even and smooth etc.

Oil bound washable distemper and primer shall be of approved brand and
manufacture. The distempershall be of requiredcolour and shade and the same shall
conform to I.S. : 428-1969. The shade shall be approved by Engineer in charge.
The distempering shall be carried out on wall surfaces to give an even shade.
Where scaffolding is required, it shall be erected in such a way that as far as
possible no pail of scaffolding shallrest against the surface to be distempered. A properly
secured and well tied suspended platform (Joola) may beused for distempering. Where
ladders are used, pieces of old gunny bags shall be tied at top and bottom to
preventscratches to the walls and floors. For distempering to ceiling, proper stage
scaffolding shall be erected wherenecessary.
Preparation of surface :
The undecorated surface to be distempered shall be thoroughly brushed from
dust, dirt, grease, mortar dropping and other foreignmatter and sand papered smooth.
New plaster surface shall be allowed to dry for at least 2 months before applications of
All unnecessary nails shall be removed. Pitting in plaster shall be made good
with plaster again with a finegrade sand paper and made smooth. A coat of distemper
shall be applied over the patches. The surface shall beallowed to dry thoroughly before
the regular coat of distemper is allowed. The surface affected by moulds, moss,fungi,
algae lichens, efflorescence etc. shall be treated in accordance with I.S; 2395 (Part 01)
1966. Before applyingdistempering, any unevenness shall be made good by applying
putty made of plaster of pairs mixed with water onentire surface including filling up the
undulation and then sand papering the same after it is dry.
Priming coat :
A priming coat of distemper primer of approved manufacture and shade shall be
applied over thepapered surface in case of new work on undecorated surface. If the
distemper priming is done after the wall surfacedries completely, the distemper primer
shall be applied.
Application of primer shall be done as under: The primer shall be applied with a
brush on the clean dry andsmooth surface. Horizontal strokes shall be given first and
vertical strokes shall be applied immediatelyafterwards.This entire operationwill
constitute on coat. The surface shall be finished as uniformly as possible leaving no
brushmarks. It shall be allowed to dry for at least 48 hours before oil bound distemper or
paint is applied.
Oil bound distemper is not recommended to be applied within six months of the
completion of wallplaster
Preparation of oil bound distemper :
The distemper shall be diluted with water or any other prescribed thinner in a
manner recommended by the manufacturer only. Sufficient quantity of distemper
requiredfor a dayswork shall be prepared.
Application of Distemper coat:
For undecorated surfaces, after the primer coat is dried for at least 48 hours, the
surface shall be lightly sand papered to make it smooth for receiving the distemper,
taking care not to rub out priming coat. All loose particles shall be dusted of after
rubbing. Minimumtow coats of distemper shall be applied with brushes in horizontal
strokes followed immediately by vertical strokes which together shall constitute one coat.
The subsequent coats shall be applied after a time interval of at least 24 hours between
consecutive coats to permit proper drying of the proceeding coat. The finished surface
shall be even and inform without patches, brush marks, distemper drops etc.
Sufficient quantity of distemper shall be mixed to finish one room at a time. The
application of a coat ineach room shall be finished in one operation and no work shall be
striated in any room which cannot be completedon the same day.
15 cm. double bristled distemper brush shall be used. After day's work brushes
shall be thoroughly washedin hot water with soap solution and hung down to dry. Old
brushes which are dirty and caked with distemper shallnot be used on the work.
Protective measurements:
The surfaces of doors, windows, floors, articles of furniture etc. and such other
parts of the buildings as are not to be distempered shall be protected form being
splashed upon. Such surfaces shall be cleaned of distemper splashes if any.
Mode of measurements and payment
Priming coat of distemper primer, scraping of surface spoiled by struck roots,
removal of oil and grease spots, treatment for infraction of effloresces., mould moss,
fungi, algae and Kitchen and patch repairs to plaster shall be included in this item for
which nothing extra shall be paid.
All the work shall be measured net in the decimal system as in place subject to
the following limits unlessotherwise stated hereinafter:
(a) Dimensions shall be measured to the nearest 0.01 m.
(b) Area in individual items shall be worked out to the nearest 0.01 sq. m. All work shall
be made for ends ofjoints, beams, posts etc., and openings, not exceeding 0.5 sq.mt.
each and no addition shall be made for reveals,jambs, soffits, sills etc. of these openings
not for finish around ends of joints, beams, posts etc.
Deductions of opening exceeding 0.5 sq.m. but not exceeding 3 sq. m. each shall
be made as follows andnet addition shall be made for reveals, jambs, soffits etc. of these
(a) When both the faces of wall are provided with same finish, deductions shall
be made for one face only.
(b) When each face of wall is provided with different finish, deduction shall be
made for that side of frame fordoors, windows etc. on which width of reveals is less than
that of the other side but no deduction shall be made onthe other side. Where the width
of reveals on the both the fates of wall are equal, deduction of 50% of area ofopening on
each face shall be made from area of finish.
(c) When only one face of wall is treated and the other face is not treated, full
deductions shall be made if thewidth of the reveal on treated side is less than that on
untreated side but if the width of the reveal is equal or morethan that on untreated side
neither deductions nor additions to be made for reveals, jambs, soffits, sills etc.
In case of opening of area exceeding 3 sq. m. each deduction shall be made for
openings but jambs, sillsand soffits shall be measured.
No deductions shall be made for attachments such as casings, conduits, pipes,
electric wiring and the like.
Item includes removing nails, making good holes, patches with materials similar
in composition ofdistemper.
The extra rate shall be paid for carrying our distempering work on ceiling/sloping
roofs over and above.
The rate includes cost of ail materials, labours, scaffolding, protective measures
etc. involved in all theoperations described above. This shall also include conveyance,
delivery, handing, unloading, storing work etc

ITEM NO –25&26: Applying two coats of Birla(white cement based) or Asian (acryliclapy

on new wall surface to give an even shade including thoroughly brushing the

The structural steel shall conform to M-22
The M.S. Grill shall be prepared as per the drawing or as directed for fixing to
wall frames of windows etc.
The grill shall be fabricated to the designs and patterns shown in the drawings
and the weight shall be asdirected, and the joints shall be reverted or welded as shown
in the plan or as directed. The grill so formed shall befixed into the frames of the
windows etc. before they are erected in position. The outside strip frame of the grill shall
behoused to its full thickness into the recess cut into the frame of the windows etc. The
grill shall be fixed to the framewith number of bolts and nuts or screws viz. bolt nut/screw
per 30 cm. of the length of outer strip subject to minimumof 2 Nos. on each side of the
frame oras indicated in the drawing or as directed.
The bolts and nuts or screws shall be counter sunk and shall be fixed with the top
of their heads flush with theface of the frame strips.
Applying primer coat
The enamel paint shall conform to M-44 B.
The materials requiredforwork of painting work shall be obtained directly from
approvedmanufactures or approved dealer and brought to the site in maker's drums;
keng. etc. with seal unbroken.
All materials not in actual use shall be kept properly protected, lids of containers
shall be kept closed andsurface of paint in open or partially open containers covered
with a thin layer of turpentine to prevent formation ofskin. The materials which have
become state or flat due to improper and long storage shall not be used. The paintshall
be stirred thoroughly in its container before pouring into small containers. While applying
also, the paint shallbe continuously stirred in smaller container. No left over paint shall
be put back into stock tins. When not in use thecontainers shall be kept properly closed.
If for any reasons, things is necessary, the brand of thinner recommended by the
manufacturer shall beused.
The surface to be painted shall be thoroughly cleaned and dusted. All rust, dirt
and grease shall bethoroughly removed before painting is started. No painting on
exterior or other exposed part o the work shall becarried out in wet, damp or otherwise
unfavorable weather and all the surfaces shall be thoroughly dry beforepainting work is
Application of paint:
Brushing operations are to be adjusted to the spreading capacity advised by the
manufacture of particularpaint. The paint shall be applied evenly and smoothly by means
of crossing and laying off. The crossing and layingoff consists of covering the area over
with paint, brushing the surface hard for the first time over and then brushingalternately
in opposite directions two or three times and then finally brushing lightly in a direction at
right angles tothe same. In this process, no brush marks shall be left after the laying off
is finished. The full process of crossingand laying off will constitute one coat.
Each coat shall be allowed to dry completely and lightly rubbed with very fine
grade of sand-paper andloose particles brushed off before next coat is applied. Each
coat shall vary slightly in shade and shall be gotapproved from Engineer-in-charge
before next coat is started.
Each coat the last shall be lightly rubbed down with sand paper of fine pumice
stone and cleaned of dustbefore the next coat is applied. No hair marks from the brush
of clogging of paint puddles in the corners of panels,angles of moldings etc. shall be left

1.5 CHINA MOSAIC TILE PIECES
China mosaic type water proofing treatment on terrace using broken pieces of
glazed tiles shall be of 12 mm to 20 mm nominal size broken pieces shall be
made from hard and good quality of tiles.
1.7 WHITE CEMENT
White cement shall be of approved make it shall confirm definition of I.S. 8042-E-
1978 the sample of white cement shall be approved by Engineer in charge.
A First of all surface of the entire terrace shall be cleaned by thoroughly brooming
and then by wire brushes. All the loose material, dust and debries shall be
removed thoroughly from the entire surface of the terrace.
All joints and cracks shall be racked off and cut in trench which shall be filled by
neat cement slurry admixed with water proofing compound. The joints with
parapet shall be racked up to 30 cm height and shall be applied by neat cement
slurry admixed with water proofing compound.
Neat cement slurry shall be prepared and a water proofing compound of
approved make shall be mixed with the slurry in proportion specified by the
manufacturer of the compound and shall be laid throughout the surface of the
terrace by the use of brushes mala etc. Cement slurry shall be prepared by
adding adequate quantity of water so as to spreadit uniformly on the surface.
B 40mm thick Cement concrete 1:2:4 (1part of cement and 2 part of coarse sand
and 4 part coarse aggregate 20mm nominal size by volume) admixed with water
proofing compound of approved make in specified proportion) of specified
thickness shall be laid (Specification of C.C. 1:2:4 shall be followed for the
execution of this layer) all over the surface of the terrace in true level and
required slope including rounding of junctions of walls and slabs.
C After two days of proper curing applying a second coat of cement slurry on entire
surface of the terrace.
D The entire surface shall be finished with 20 mm thick C.M. 1:3 and China mosaic
tilling in true level and slope as directed by Engineer in charge and finally
finishing the surface with trowel with white cement slurry (Specification of white
glazed tiles flooring shall be followed for the execution of this item).
E Finishing the surface with 20 mm thick C.M. 1:3 and China mosaic tilling and
finally finishing the surface with trowel with white cement slurry.
F After two days proper curing the terrace shall be flooded for15 days.
7.0 MODE OF MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT
7.1 The unitrate of flooring shall include the cost of all materials, tools and
plantrequiredfor mixing, laying of base layer in true level and slope as required
applying and placingbroken pieces of china mosaic tile in position, compacting,
finishing, curing, providing treatment of 30 cm high allover the length of parapets
and corners and sill of doors etc. and all other incidental expenses for producing
flooring work to complete the structure of its components as shown on the

The rate of plastering shall include the cost of all labour, materials, tools and
plants, scaffolding and all incidental expenses as described herein above.
7.2 The plaster work shall be measured for its length and width, limiting dimensions
to those specified on plan or as directed. The rate shall be for a unit of one

1.0 KOTAH STONE SLAB
1.1. Kotah stone slab shall be hard even sound, and regular in shape and generally uniform
in colour. The colour of the stone shall generally be green. Only approved coloured shall not be
allowed for use. They shall be without any soft veins cranks of flaws polished kotah stone slab
shall be hard, even, and regular in shape and it should without fault.
1.2. The size of the Kotah stone slab to be used as approved by Engineer in charge or
Architect. However smaller sizes will be allowed to be used to the extent of maintaining required
pattern. Thickness shall be as specified. For stair casethe polished blue kotah stone slab shall
be in single piece.
1.3. Tolerance of minus 30 mm. on accounts of chisel dressing of edges shall be permitted
for length as well as breadth. Tolerance in thickness shall be +3 mm.
1.4. The edges of polished Kotah stone slab shall be truly chiseled and table rubbed with
coarse sand before paving. All angles and edges of the stones of shall be true, square and free
chipping and surface shall be true and plain.
1.5. The polished Kotah stone slab shall have machine cut free edges with half round pipe
moulding mirror polished surface. When brought on site. The stones to be used forflooring dedo,
skirting, sink, veneering, sills, steps, etc.
2.0 WORKMANSHIP
2.1 Kotah stone slab shall be of approved quality shall be laid evenly to level and slope as
directed by Engineer in charge over a bed of a base layer consisting of cement mortar
1:6 (1 cement: 6coarse sand by volume) or Lime Mortar 1:1.5 (1 lime : 1.5 lime putty by

mixed to produce workable consistency before mixing platform shall be thoroughly
cleaned before changing from one type of cement to another.
2.4. The mixing for base layer shall be done intimately. The operation shall be carried out on
clean water tight platform, and cement sand shall be first mixed dry in the required
proportion to obtain uniform colour and then the mortar shall be mixed for at least two
minutes after addition of water. In case of cement mortar, that has suffered because of
evaporation of water the same shall be re-tempered by adding water as frequently as
needed to restore the requisite consistency but its re-tempering shall be permitted only
within thirty minute from the time of addition to water at the time of initial mixing.
2.5. Cement and sand for base layer shall be mixed in proportion as specified in the item,
Cement and sand shall be proportioned by volume after making due allowance for
bulking. The required quantity of water shall then be added and the mortar mixed to
produce workable consistency.
2.6. Curing shall be started as soon as the mortar used for finished has hardened sufficiently
no to be damaged when watered. It shall be kept wet for a period of at least 7 days.
During this period, it shall be suitably protected from all damages;
2.7. During hot weather, all finished or partly finished work shall be covered or wetted in such
manner aswillprevent rapid drying of the flooring work.
2.8. Joints of polished Kotah stone slab flooring shall be through and continuous throughout
the building as directed by Engineer in charge.
2.9. Joints shall be filled with a stiff mixture of gray cement slurry.
2.10. The Kotah stone slab flooring work shall be finished by rubbing and mirror polishing after
the work of flooring is set properly.
3.0 MODE OF MEASUREMENT &PAYMENT :
3.1. The unit rate polished blue Kotah stone slabflooring shall include the cost of all
materials, tools and plantrequiredfor mixing, laying of base layer in true level and slope
as required applying &placing stones in position, finishing, curing etc. flooring all over the
length of walls and corners and sill of doors etc. and all other incidental expenses for
producing flooring work to complete the structure or its components as shown on the
drawings and according to these specifications. They shall also include the cost of
making, fixing and removing of all scaffolding and forms required for the work. The rate
includes cost of mirror polishing of flooring and dedo work.
3.2 Therateshall include the cost of all materials and laboursinvolved in all the operations
described above. The polished blue kotah stone slabflooring shall be measured in
Square meter correct to 2 places of decimal. Length and breadth shall be measured to
correct to a centimeter and between the finished the finished face of the skirting, dado or
wall plaster and no deduction shall be made nor extrapaidfor any opening in floors or
areas up to 0.1 square meter.
3.3 The rate shall befor a unit of one Square meter.
