(considering the duration of test as 5 days minimum.)
Scope of work: Carrying out a full-scale static load test on the bridge superstructure as per the methodology and acceptance criteria stipulated in the latest version of IRC:SP:51 (Guidelines for Load Testing of Bridges) and the contract specifications, including all preparatory works, supply and arrangement of test loads for IRC Class 70R Loading, instrumentation, data collection, analysis, and submission of a detailed test report to the Engineer-in-Charge." The work covered by this item generally includes: Preparatory Works: Visual inspection of the bridge components (bearings, expansion joints, superstructure soffit). Cleaning the deck and applying whitewash to the soffit of the superstructure to monitor crack appearance and development. Arrangement and erection of stable and independent scaffolding/staging for instruments and observers. Closing the bridge to traffic for the duration of the test. Loading Arrangements: Sourcing, transporting, and placing the specified test load (e.g., specific number and type of trucks, pre-weighed concrete blocks, sandbags) to simulate the design load effect (e.g., IRC Class A or 70R loading) at critical sections. The load application should be in stages (typically 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% of the test load).
Instrumentation: Arrangement and installation of instruments such as dial gauges (with 0.01 mm least count) and LVDT's , strain gauges, digital thermometers, and data acquisition systems at specified locations (e.g., L/4, L/2, 3L/4 points of girders). Ensuring continuous contact between dial gauge spindles and the bridge structure. Testing and Data Collection: Recording initial temperature readings and making temperature corrections during the test. Measuring and recording deflections, strains, and any appearance or widening of cracks at regular intervals (typically hourly) during the loading, 24-hour retention period at full load, and unloading phases. Analysis and Reporting: Interpretation of collected data and comparison of observed behavior with expected analytical behavior and permissible limits as per IRC:SP:51. Preparation and submission of a comprehensive report detailing the entire procedure, observations, results, and conclusions regarding the structural integrity and acceptance of the bridge
